The American Revolution, Or First Civil War - 997 Words
Joseph Anhalt Duce Class Title 25 March 2015 The American Revolution, or first civil war? The American Revolution was a Civil War, at first. One outstanding reason for this is that the colonies at the time were still recognized as a part of the british empire. Being apart of the british empire would there endow us with being from the same nation, maki9ng the act of war upon ourselves at the time a Civil war.The combatants of this war were The Loyalist, the ones who chose to stay with the british empire, and the Patriots the ones who had taken the riskful path to try to up throw the rule of a tyranny that had have at the time seen little to no loss in the battle field. ââ¬Å"The Declaration of Independence said that by July 1776 the time had come ââ¬Å"for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another.â⬠But the signers of the Declaration knew that they spoke, not for ââ¬Å"one nationâ⬠but for a divided nation. Over tens of thousands of Americans opposed the Revolution. They called themselves the Loyalists; the Patriots called them Tories.â⬠(Allen Tories) Allen defines what the Tories really were in his book. The war between the british and our newly declared state, wasn t merely two nations battling but amongst the american people, a civil war.
